2000 S70 non turbo, occasionally runs poor and no acceleration S70

My S70 will intermitantly go into limp mode and the motor will run very rough. It will run like that for a period of time then run fine. Sometimes I will just let it sit for a while and when I start it up again it will run fine. I felt the accelerator run at a certain RPMs even without my foot on the peddle. Engine analyzer gave me the following:

P1610 - Immobilization system malfuctioning

P1620 - Injection pump (Throttle Position switch)

P0220 - Throttle pedal position sensor / switch B

Need all the help I can get,

Thanks

Mike

Check your ETM next to the throttle body. If it has a white sticker, it is failing and will soon leave you stranded.

Dealer replacement is quite expensive. Take a look at www.xemodex.com for a rebuilt that will not fail and no programming required by the dealer.

      Klaus,

I was hoping that you would advise just replacing the throttle position switch, if that even exists.

However, there is a yellow sticker on the bottom of the throttle body. Not sure if the throttle body is the same as the ETM?

Also, in July of 2003 there is an entry in the maintenance printout that indicates the following:

"ECM code 620A for interal fault in throttle unit, replaced throttle unit, download software, reset codes" I didnt own the car at that time however I requested the previous owners maintenance record printout when I made the purchase.

Does this make my problem any easier to solve?

      Thank you,
      Mike

While there is a throttle position switch on the firewall, it is the P1600 codes that refer to the ETM, P1610 is signal too high and the other is no signal. Generic code readers do not always get the error text correct.

You could try cleaning the plug at the ETM, use dielectric grease to keep water out of the plug. And, yes, the ETM box is on the front of the intake manifold next to the butterfly valve.

The 1999-2002 NA engines had problems with the ETM longer than the turbo engines, even with the yellow boxes.

Supposedly, you can go to a dealer and get the codes read for free if the CEL is on. Call and ask. If they want to replace the ETM, say no thank you and call xemodex for a permanent fix.

Electronic Throttle Module. No cable from the gas pedal to the throttle pedal. The module resides just below the throttle body.
