It happened the other day. I came home from work parked the car and the a hour later went to get back in it and go out for the evening and the car would not move. I first. Ogie something was up when I tried to unlock it and the key fob wouldnt work. The car starts it will not move. The wipers came on also. Does anyone have any idea what's going on with this thing. It's a 2004 V70R

I am not sure if this is a single problem or a bunch of them. Did you try another remote, in case the battery died after 8 years? Does the led under the windshield blink every few seconds until you unlock the car?
You say the engine starts, but the car does not move. Does this mean that you cannot put it in gear, or you put it in gear and it still does not move? Have you replaced either of the front axles?

The car starts. The car moves but very very slowly. The dash lights dont come on and the gear shifter lights don't come on. The day time running lights don't come on but high beams do. The Alexs were done a few years ago. And the only way to lock and unlock the car is with the key not the fob
