Now that someone actually found the name for the stuff in the middle of the seats of the R's (and maybe other Volvos), I did some investigating. Note that nobody at the dealership knew what it was called; some didn't even know what I was talking about :-)

Well, depends on the dealership. All of my guys and gals know what "ALCANTARA" is...I find it hard to believe that nobosy in a Volvo dealership does not know...

Maybe "nobody" is a little strong term - I asked my salesman, who asked two others, I talked to the parts guy about a cleaner for it(who didn't even know what kind of leather seats had anything but leather in the middle), and he/we asked two other parts guys who happened to be walking around. Can't remember if I ever talked to the service staff...

And this dealership has two sites in the Minneapolis area and one in Florida (Borton Volvo).. Kind of surprising, aside from the fact that it isn't a "normal" feature.

I know of a company in CT that will redo car seats with Alcantera. They did a friend's TT Coupe with the stuff. He loves the results!

I love the fact that we have Alcantera as a seat inset. Very nice touch. Thanks for posting cleaning tips. I need to use them on the passenger seat. :-(

I went out to Wet Okole to look for custom, neoprene seat covers. They don't have ANY available for any relatively new model year Volvos! I was surprised. They have a design available for the Audi TT, a brand new vehicle, but not for any S/V70 seats! Odd... (vent over)
