Been looking at an s40, 2005, 64K miles at an independent sales lot.
When started from cold, quite a 'roar' from the engine before it settles down to fast idle. Is it worth taking any further and what should it be worth.

What do you mean by roar? Is the engine racing or is it another noise?

On our '01, the cooling fan runs for a few seconds on a cold start-up - and that does make some noise. I remember finding it odd when we first got the car and may have even inquired about it. Still does it and since I never did anything about it I'm guessing that I was told it was normal.

engine races, perhaps a 'growl' would be more appropriate.

It should not go over 1500 rpm at any time. Keep looking. You want one with service history.

thanks, but this definitely a high rev engine noise.
