axle changeout S70 1998

hello, I am rebuilding the front suspension and replacing front axles on my daughter's s70.
Yesterday I pulled the passenger side axle out and instead for the small trickle of tranny fluid I expected I got a major fluid dump. I would estimate the amount that came out to be at least a gallon. When I did this exact same operation on my '96 850t last fall I only had a slight trickle . Anyone have any ideas on this? Is this a problem?

Thanks,

Dan

My only question is if someone added tranny fluid to an already full system.

No, she has had the s70 for at least 3 years and it is not now or ever since she has had it been overfilled. Only guess I have is that maybe since it has not been driven for a bit while undergoing repairs the tranny fluid that is normally throughout the system has drained back into the pan. As i say just a guess.

Most of the fluid will drain down overnight. Because the hydraulic fluid is so thin, I expect that a quart would make a big mess. There are only 2 gallons of fluid in the system.

After you get the car back on the ground, check the level with the engine not running yet. Just curious. When I picked up my car, the cold/not running level was at the full mark on the cold side - 2 quarts low!

Oh i will definitely do that but it will take a bit. My schedule is such that I only get a couple hours to work on it on Saturdays only. I am hoping to be able to get a little time with it during the week but as i say my schedule is insane and when i could possibly sneak over during the week for an hour or so I end up getting rained out. Oh well.
