Evaporator A/C 850 1995

volvo 850 1995 turbo.... I am going to change the evap. and I was thinking better get volvo original. Then I thought isn't that why I'm changing it.?? Are the evaps and dryers ok to use from the china parts distributor FCP Grouton or should I buy a name brand. What mfg's parts should I use? Thank you

These are not generic evaporators that fit any old car. But, if you want OEM, try Tasca Volvo in RI, they do a pretty good discount.

Make sure you get a new drier and expansion valve. You will need special tools to unclip the hoses from the evap.

Take pics while taking the dash apart, especially of the wiring harnesses and plugs - before you unplug them, so you know where they go during assembly. Digital pics are free and you can always delete them when the job is done.

Remember to reinforce the dash mounts.

Will do. Thanks. my question was if I buy the evaporator, dryer and expansion valve and O-rings from FCP will that be ok? cause I like to save money. or will I be sorry? I will use a filter(pollen) as there is one one there now.

Will the least expension parts do the job?

I am also a Volvo-holic? my name is Rick lol

I don't think this car has an expansion valve, at least my '98 ( & 91 240) don't -- you will have an orifice tube. The tube in is the A/C pipe that seems to be in the way when you do the timing belt. I would leave it alone unless you know or suspect you have debris in the system, as from a failed compressor.

Let me see... it is a 10 hour job to R&R the evaporator. You really like the idea of saving some money (good thing) and are willing to go back in there and replace the $74 evap from Air Products if it does not fit quite right.

Find Air Products and check their reputation and where they get their very cheap evaporator from.

Humbly asking what evap should I buy?
Has anyone used the less expensive ones ?
I have seen four seasons,Austin baker, modine, and nissins.
Let's face it the OEM failed, so who's to say it is so great .
I don't mind adjusting the line. Shit I build custom muscle cars for
a living.
I just would like to know which mfg is the best value? I assume they are all pressure tested?

Thank you all

Be sure to also install a cabin intake air filter. Pre '96's didn't come with one and that's why the evaps go bad. Dust collects around the evap and collects moisture that corrodes the unit.

Good suggestion!

BTW - I bought the cabin air filter and its holder from FCP Groton for my 95 855. Not too expensive.
