Staying within limited budget. I also have a v70 na 2004 with 235,000 miles I am keeping.

Considering an 06 2.5t xc70. Also seeing 2004's offered.

Seems to me that after 04 they all had the haldex AWD system. That should be reliable. And 2.5t a good motor. Also reliable and durable. The 06 was the last year before changeover.

I know the 04 v70. I'm thinking I can keep this simple by choosing an updated AWD version of this car. Wife drove an s80, 04, says its an old mans car. She's right, and I'm a semi-old man. Maybe I'll give her my v70 and buy an s80.

She likes the xc70. It would be nice for her to have AWD for the winter.

Please.....everyone respond at once. I need to buy a car tomorrow!

Hey Hovo, You read the same board I do. Once you're in '04 territory, you've cleared the bar, no? The '06 choice gets you a facelift. All kidding aside, I've never heard of any "land mines" after the '99-'02 ETMs, the '01-'02 trannies and the -'03 bevel gears. The bubbling door panels are a thing of the past. I'd go for the newest, best maintained '04- for the money. Kira

As said, the newer the better! Wife`s 03 XC70 has been pretty reliable but DIM went south around 140 K & ABS module shortly after. Didn`t know about Xemodex.com at the time & would have saved some big bucks!

Agreed you can also count on the 02-03 dim issues. Have a 03 v70 my issues have been minor.

oil trap 106k, dim issues 130k otherwise pretty reliable.

auto transmissions 99-02 heard numerous problems and the awd in early models 99-01 real problem in addition to chewiing up front tires.
