Cooling fan relay V70-XC70 1998

Well my a/c compressor has been working fine with the bread clip fix for almost 2 years now. The other day in intense heat the compressor just stopped. It worked fine for a few hours then I parked it for an hour and when I started it back up the compressor wouldn't kick on. I jumped the low pressure switch and nothing.

I've checked all the usual suspects and no go. Now I just noticed the electric radiator fan isn't kicking on. When I tap on the fan relay up front the fan moves for a second. Happens everytime that I tap it. Does this mean the relay is shot? Could this be stopping the a/c compressor from working?

Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for the response Klaus.

Still no go on the fan. I installed a new relay from fcp and it didn't change a thing. Tap on the relay and the fan jumps about a 1/4 turn.

I jumped the fan leads and it runs fine a both speeds.

I unplugged the CTS and the fan comes on and won't shut off. So I replaced the CTS and the symptoms did not change at all.

Is there something else I might look for? I know it's possible I got a bad relay from fcp. I'm baffled.

I shouldn't have been so short answered the first time.

The compressor: There is a thermo switch internal to the compressor and if it gets too hot, it will shut off. Does the AC work now, that the engine has had a chance to cool off?

The fan should have been running with the AC switched on, so long as the engine is at operating temps. The fan will not run with a cold engine. Unplugging the ECT sensor should engage the fan and turn on the CEL - fail safe, not knowing the engine temps.

Check the wires at the fan relay for corrosion. You may be getting a bad connection.
