Wastegate adjustment - More HP? V70-XC70 2000

Hi

I have had my wastegate adjusted lately to give a little more boost on the LPT. My tech said at around 3800+ RPM, I would start feeling a rush (definitely felt it) but he wasn't sure, in theory, the extra number of HP this could provide. The XC seems quicker as soon as the RPM rise however I don't think we're talking about huge improvement here. Would any tech around here perhaps have a "guesstimate" of such modification?

Thanks!

Detailed instructions on how to adjust the wastegate are at VolvoTuning.com. Just don't overdo it or you'll set off a check engine light. Just to let you know, this adjustment made a difference on my car too.

With a shortened wastegate rod you will see a sharper rise in boost pressure (more 'immediate' response), but steady-state boost pressure at WOT will not be affected as it's ECU controlled and the wastegate is only set for a low baseline boost (about 40% of the final boost level) and does not get controlled directly by the boost pressure as on many Japanese cars.

The ECU has a valve in the pressure line to the wastegate actuator and it opens or closes it to regulate the pressure 'seen' by the actuator and thus (indirectly) boost pressure.

Need more power? Get an ECU upgrade. Pretty much only way to go on Volvo's.

    Bye, Arno.
