Gumout--in, or out? 850

I was buying something at the Autozone and they convinced me at the cash register I should buy a bottle of Gumout, and empty it into my gas tank the next time I fill up. Now that the tank is almost empty and it's time to use it, I'm getting cold feet.
Any Counsel from the Brickboard Brain Trust?

I guess putting it in your tank is safer than using it to start the barbque. It will not harm anything, but it won't do anything for you either.

You do need to be using 89 or 91 octane gasoline. The 'regular' grade doesn't contain enough cleaners to keep the valves and injectors clean.

I didn't know I should be using 89 or higher octane. Will change my ways.

        Gumout--in, or out? - use 91 octane 850

Do you have an owner's manual? If no, download a .pfd file and read it, especially the octane requirements. Really, it will run better with the fuel grade that the engine was designed to use, especially considering how we have been cursed with Ethanol all over the USA. As for a fuel additive, if you think your injectors may be a bit crudded up, use Techron or Ventil-Sauber.

It came without an owner's manual, but I got one online. It's amazing all the things available online these days. Anyway, I thought I'd read the whole thing, but hadn't.

The local dealer would dump Techron in at each service, so I did too. The late models advise against it. Gumout is for the lawnmower. 91 octane will make a difference. You might like it.

I don't use it, but I change my fuel filter every year (around the time FCP puts a decent sale together and I add a fuel filter to my order...) and I only use premium fuel. The detergents in the gas are more than enough to keep the system clean.

I don't think it will hurt, and since you already bough it, might as well use it.
