Maintenance S70

Hi Everyone,
I was curious when i need to replace things. I would be willing to replace parts before i have a break down.

My current milage is 143,000:

I am curious when i might need to replace the following items:

1 - fuel pump
2 - front wheel bearings
3 - cv joint and/or/ boots
4 - shocks


S70 GLT 143,000 miles

    The only item on your short list that will cause a break down is the fuel pump. Normally, the pump will last much longer and is not something you want to carry in your trunk or leave on the shelf for a few years. It would be nice to have a fuel pump relay or a couple of jumper wires in the glove box.

    At 143K miles, it is time to replace the shocks/struts.

    The CV and bearings get replaced when they start to complain.

      Thank you to everyone for your kind posts.

      I am doing an alignment now and ordering the struts and shocks.
      The dealer is keeping my car for another day since they didnt have the alignment rack.

          Hi Klaus,
          Wow, i didnt know that. The dealer said my struts were ok still and did the alignment. They said i could wait in the struts and shocks. It was supposed to be about $1100 to $1500 if i did it. Any recommendations for struts and shocks for later?

            I had new struts, their mounts, and the front spring seats (way worn at 97k), and stabilizer arm bushings done for less than $1000. Got brakes all around, reman calipers and all new hydraulic lines, for another $500.
            Timing belt kit, incl. idler and tensioning pulleys, water pump, and serpentine belt, while they've already gotten in there, for under $1000.
            Still shopping for new headlights.

            Hi, Very happy with Bilstein touring struts and shocks on my 850t. Nice ride and better than stock handling. Easy to do in the driveway too.

              Thank you for your post. The dealer said my shocks are still good.
              I wont change them after all. But does anyone know where is a good place to get Bilstein touring struts and shocks for my S70 GLT?

              The dealer said my shocks are still good. They just did the alignment and let me go. But today i my car told me that it's aging. I now have another problem. I will start a new thread to ask for ideas.

            Shop around for struts/shocks, reasonably cheap, and if you buy a spring compressor for around $60 and a torque wrench for the same amount, it takes about 2 hours to do each side at home. Then find a GOOD alignment shop in your neighborhood and finish it up. It should be less than $500 total DIY. Sachs/Boge are OEM.

    Based on my experience with my 95 850:

    Fuel Pumps can outlast the car

    One wheel bearing at 190k

    One CV joint the same

    Replaced front struts at 180k, rear are original. Replaced rear shock mounts at 175k.
