60,000 service recommendations V70-XC70 99

My car goes in for 60,000 service next Thursday. Is there anything they will want to do which is a waste of money? Is there anything not mentioned in the book which ought to be done anyway?

The manual for my '99 X/C calls for spark plugs, air filter, and oil change as well as brake system flush and inspection. The spec. for the timing belt is 105k miles.

WOW! 60K Miles on a 99 V70-XC70 99

You're probably looking at an ATF change, timing belt change and multi-point inspection. The mp point inspection could yield anything and everything, including brake pads, rotors, suspension components, etc.

Considering the importance of the two main things to be done, I'd suggest to go along with them. As for other things that could show up from the mp point inspection, use your own discretion. Always ask to keep old parts if possible (not always as in the alternator which requires a core charge), and pay attention to your car before going in. Have you been noticing a loss in power, ride problems, odd noises, etc? Things like that will help you decide whether a suggested repair is vital or not.

It also helps to get intimately acquainted with your car. The more you know about it, the more you'll be able to tell whether something should be fixed or not.

Timing belt is NOT due at 60k. Accessory drive belt is along with spark plugs, and air/fuel filters. I suggest that Peter has a look at his service schedule (included with the car).

Peter, they might charge you for inspecting or lubrication that was not actually performed. Your best defense is to know what needs to be done. Read your manual.

Yea, the timing belt isn't due until 70k, however to do the timing belt you need to replace the drive belt. So why not just replace both belts at 60k, saving a few dollars on labor and not worry about the timing belt at all. That's my plan.

Re: WOW! 60K Miles on a 99 V70-XC70 1998

You may all want to check your owners manual on the 99'. I have a 99 S70 and the timing belt change has been extended to 105,000 miles. This has been confirmed by the dealer and Volvo of America. Apparantly they went to a different idle tensioner pully and a wider timing belt so don't waste you money putting in a new timing belt at 60K.
