Question oil leak noy the rear seal

Help son put in the oil trap on his 98 s70. He was not leaking oil but figured it was time.

I have done the replacement twice before.

During the job he decided to replace the o-ring on the dip stick tube with a 99 0-ring he had.

After the job he started to develop a huge oil leak.

Since I don't have a lift brought it to my indy shop to clean and check out.

The mechanic says the intake has to be removed because one of the hoses must have come loose.

I think my son crimped the o-ring when he put the tube back in.

I will probably start by refitting the tube but my question is if indeed one of hoses came loose would it be dumping alot of oil in my driveway. The whole middle bottom of the engine was coated with oil.

Madness

Remove the splash/air guide from the bottom of the car. It is collecting the oil and making it drip elsewhere.

All of the hoses are above the oil level when engine is off, so it should not drip on the driveway. If the O ring for the filler tube is wrong, that will leak. If the hoses coming out of the top of the oil separator are loose, that should not cause an oil leak. You should be able to reach under a cold manifold and check the hoses to make sure they are snug.

If the connector hose from the box to the block is loose, that might leak oil when the rpms are up.

      Klaus always the best.

The splash guard is off the car already. The kit with the oil trap had a metal insert with a rubber mount going into the block. Really was pretty snug. Did not put a bracket on this did not want to bend the metal. My wife's car had the sane setup and never had an issue.

Gut feel it is the dipstick tube.

Remove the intake and found the issue. Just as you said Klaus the elbow into the block was ripped on the bottom.

Guess the bracket we used was too thick. Picking up another elbow and getting a thinner bracket. Gotten pretty good at removing manifold. takes me around 30 minutes.

One tip I always do before I start is to pull the fuel pump fuse and start the car to get out any excess fuel.

        works like a charm.

        Madness
