Anyone know why individual power door locks fail to unlock but continue to lock? I can even hear the lock motor run but it does not unlock the door.

Just had a rear one replaced under my VIP warranty. It would lock but would not unlock when below 35-40 degrees outside.

My car does the same, especially after carwashing and leaving it outside of the garage on a sub-freezing night. I've been under the impression that this type of behavior is related to a design flaw that allows moisture/water to get into the mechanism and freeze it. Replacing the lock mechanism will help for now, but more water gets in and causes the same. This is different than the mechanism failing for some electrical or mechanical cause.

Mine seemed to be unrelated to moisture or humidity...unless it [the lock] was just full of water and had been for some time such that it would freeze when cold enough. That doesnt explain why it would unlock, however. Anyhow, its been replaced so time will tell if that was the permanent fix or not.

'98s had a new supplier on those and they fail often (the original part that is). You need to have any failing door latch assembly replaced.

That's interesting information!

I had both rear door locks plus the 5th door lock all fail in close proximity to one another. But neither front lock (yet).

I wasn't aware of the new part supplier.

One reason I bought the VIP warranty, too.
