OK...decision time. As I mentioned, I looked at a 2012 XC70 FWD...black, tan interior. 24,000 miles. Visually, nice...car fax is clean. My concern...such high milage on a new-ish car. No way to know what it has been through...or not. It has the remainer of the factory warranty (50-5yrs) left.
Any concerns?

I know there are V70 AWD cars. However, I thought by definition a "XC V70" only came with AWD.
Whats the story in this discussion of FWD on an XC v70???

It is not a discussion it IS a great deal on a Volvo.

Begining with 2012, the 'V70' is no more. Now, there is an option to 'delete' the AWD on the XC. Same suspension, etc as the old XC, just FWD. This is for the USA market only, I think, as the Europeans still have the V70 as well as a clutch.

You might ask if you can see the title - who owned it?
Maintenance was ferr - but some dopes don't bother anyway - can you see the service records? How do the tires look - are they new?
There is a recall on the AC.
They will have to give it to you anyway to register it.
Are you going to have it serviced at this dealer?
If so, ask the service department if they are independent of sales - many are. If so, have them run a certified car inspection - my dealer charges 1 hour's labor and they can tell you if an ant farted in the cargo compartment.
When I bought our last used car, I had it checked - then the salesman called me and offered to pay for half if he could see the report - the service department would not show him the results because I had paid for it! They had to replace the main seal.
If not, ask if you can take it to your dealer and have them do the certified check.
One hour well spent.
It is easy to give free advice - If it puts a gleam in your eye - buy it!

Hello, I make this post in the spirit of "recalibration of our consumeristic minds" and pure fun. To James: When you post about car dealers who don't or won't communicate with the service department about the cars in their stock-the same dealers we can't trust to honestly describe a car's condition in the first place-how can you say, "if it puts a gleam in your eye-buy it"? We can like our cars plenty, but who can afford to indulge a gleam? Again, I'm drawing attention to the irony and humor presented. It's just the latent "Depression era" reflexes encoded into people my age. Don't take offense. Kira

Kira - I did not mean to say that service does not communicate with sales, they just would not give out information that I paid for.
One oddity that this dealer sometimes exibhits is that they will sell a used car before they evaluate what repairs it might need. For instance, in this case, sales did not know that the car needed a main seal - I had observed oil on the underside of the car hence the inspection.
We came to grips on this 6 year old 854 base with 48k miles - it was still owned by Volvo as the same person used it for 2x3year leases.
We just traded the car in after 11 years of happy motoring.
I have been doing business with this dealer for 13 years and I have had a good experience with both service and sales.
As for the gleam in his eye - a person who is smitten with his car will overlook more small problems with the vehicle than a person who just kinda likes his ride.

Was this a Hertz car? With half of the warranty gone, are you going to blow through the 25K remaining miles in 4 years? Is this a really GOOD price?
Check all 4 door frames and rear license plate area - look for non-buffed areas of respray, just in case it was hit and not reported. Also all the seams are straight.
If the car were 2 years old, the mileage would be more resonable. But that would also be reflected by the cost. I am not making the deal OR paying for it, so anything I say here doesn't hold weight. But I would talk to the dealer about pricing at the 2 year old level, not 1 year old.

24,000 = high miles? Nonsense.
Is it high miles for one year? Yes.
Is it high miles overall? No.
To rack up that many miles in less than a year means a lot of highway to me.
Nothing to worry about.
