What is the best dollar/value/functional replacement shock to into a 1986 240DL (62Kmiles) ?

I live in LA, and having this a a pricepoint of comparison would be helpful when calling around for prices and warranties.

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry, check shox.com for some good prices on shocks/struts. Boge are considered to be the way to go for long term value, and are original equipment on your vehicle. Cheaper stuff like Monroe is said not to last and is eventually a waste of time and money when you have to replace prematurely. Boge Automatic are the standard value, Turbo Gas a pricier performance shock. Bilsteins are expensive.

Thanks !

Should I assume that it is safest to get the shocks from a location such as Firestone, or the like, where they would install them and warrant them, rather than having a friend put them in, in that the warranty is esstential. Or are shocks pretty much a put them in place and they have no real way of being a problem ?

Jerry

This is very appreciated.

Find a Volvo-specific repair shop and ask them to install Boge OEM shocks (Original Equipment Manufacture). OR, contact ipd usa @ www.ipdusa.com and check out their prices and order by mail. Then ask a shop to install them for you. Having a shop do it for you can be important unless you are confident you can do it by yourself without any doubt that you installed them correctly. Check warranty with the manufacturer of the shock you buy. Just because you buy a shock at Firestone doesn't mean they will warranty it.

Boge shocks are very good. I have had both Bilstein and Boge on my cars. Boge is your best bang for the buck. Bilsteins may be overkill for your car.
