Volvo amplifier S70 1998

Has anyone added the OEM external amplifier to their SC-816 unit?

While I am reasonably pleased with the performance of the set-up as is, I am wondering if the boost would result in more clarity when driving at 70+ mph.

BTW I do have ASC engaged.

Thanks,

Bryan

Re: Volvo amplifier S70 1998

Skip the amp and just upgrade the speakers. I have replaced all of my speakers with Polk Audio DB series and added a 12" Polk DB sub with stunning results. In all the car now has 15 speakers, all in factory locations except the sub. there is no evidence that the system is modified except the Polk Db 6930's in the rear deck and the 12" sub in the trunk. I am running an SC-810 w/ CD changer, so the 816 will sound even better! I only have one gripe, and that is the sub is difficult to control without a seperate "volume" control. (Many after-market head units have this feature, so eventually I will add one.) Being a long-time consumer of Sony mobile ES equipment, I am actually impressed with the Volvo factory head. It doesn't sound quite as good as the digital optical system, but it is 10X better than most factory systems I have heard. I did the install in a few hours and the results are well worth the time investment. In all the total cost was about $1000 for speakers and sub/amp, and some small electrical things here and there. Also, use dynamat when installing the speakers, it really made a difference.

Can the SC-901 receiver be install into my S70 ? S70 1998

Prospero,

15 SPEAKERS ?

Please explain how you got 15 speakers in factory locations ? The

SC-816 only has 8 SPEAKERS. 2 in the front, 1 in each of the front & rear doors, and 2 in the rear dash.

While we're on that topic, does anyone know whether I can install the AM/FM receiver with 3-Discs Changer receiver ( Standard on the C70 )

on my 1998 Volvo S70 GLE ?

One of my friends recently purchased a Volvo C70 Coupe, but he

doesn't want the SC-901 System ( In-Dash 3 CD, 400 watts amp, Dolby Pro-Logic DSP, and 12 Dynaudio speakers ) that came with his C70 as he is going to install a killer system ( 650+ watts Sony system, nut ! ), so he is selling me the entire system, including the 12 Dynaudio speakers for

$ 100 Cdn. He is also giving his Sony MD Changer from his previous car.

Currently, I have the SC-813 receiver with the factory 6-Discs CD Changer in my 1998 Volvo S70 GLE.

I need assistance on how to install the above system into my 1998 Volvo S70.

1) Will my 6-Discs CD Changer still work with the new SC-901 receiver ?

( That way, I would have a 3-Discs CD Changer in the dash, and a 6-Discs

CD Changer in the trunk )

2) How am I going to get the " old " Sony MD changer to work with the new

SC-901 receiver ?

3) For this installation, is it a DIY or should I bring it to my local

professional car audio shop ? They wanted me $ 450 Cdn for the entire

installation. If it's a DIY, what should I look out for and what tools

do I need ?

TIA,
