Talkin Bout Window Fit ! C70 99

Guys,

Just a little suggestion if anyone wants it.

Last year I found that every time I washed

my c70 the spray from the hose was getting

thru the vertical seal area of the power

window. After further examination I saw

what the problem was. The puffiness of the

vertical part of the rubber door gasket was

reducing over time making a void between the

glass and the rubber. If you push this area

in with your thumb you will notice that it is

hollow. Well I did not want to get the dealer

involved again [another story] so I decided

to come up with my own fix.

I found that aquarium tubing is a terrific material

to make this hollow area puffy again. On a warm

day, slowly pull the pull the rubber away from car

where the window area starts [ use the print on

the glass as a locator ]. You will notice it has

a little bend in it. If you slowly turn it around

there will be a little hole the size of a pencil

eraser. Use this hole to insert the aquarium tubing.

OK

1- Get 2 types of the tubing :

a- small flexible air pump size. [approx 20']

b- rigid air tubing. [approx 10']

2- Cut these to fit inside hollow vertical area.

[ If I remember I used about 12" ]

3- Take a screwdriver and penetrate the small

hole as there is a little barrier from production.

[ Throw some vaseline on for lubrication ]

4- Insert flexible tubing [ Lub them up w/ vas ]

one at a time until capacity reaches around 75%.

Massage these tubes with your fingers to get

a uniform arc and puffiness of surface.

[ you will notice that you can't jam anymore

flexible tubing due to lack of working room ]

5- This where the rigid tubing comes in. Insert

the rigid pieces for the other 25%.

Use your jugdement but it took about 6-8 of the

flexible pieces and about 3-4 of the rigid pieces.

Use the dollar bill method of testing for your own

build up specifications. I can now wash my car

with out the fear of water damage to my interior.

I feel that all us C70 owners will have this problem

as all rubber depreciates. Use a glycerin base conditioner

like Zymol Seal to keep rubber live and supple.

I think our cousins with the four doors will not have this

problem.

I hope this helps other C70 owners.

All The Best !

RD

Nice! I'll give that a try sometime when I find the time. For me it's more wind noise going at high speed than water dripping into the cabin. I'll give it a shot when the weather here in cali dries up a little. I'm a little confused on the pulling away the rubber from the car where the window area starts. What do you mean? Are you talking about the top of the vertical seal or bottom? Can you provide some pics of the finished product. Does it look all bulgy (sp?)? Thanks for your input.

      Yeah Mike,

I mean the bottom area where the glass starts starts to ride

up the seal. Don't pull too much, only about 3 inches or so.

Just enough to see the manufacturing hole I'm talking about.

As far as bulging, the surface is smooth and the

presence of the tubing as just about undetectable.

I will take some digital pictures when it gets a little

warmer as I do not want to crack the rubber. I'ts still

      cold where I am.
