headlight adjustment V70-XC70 2000

To adjust the headlight height, the Owner's Manual (p. 98) says: "The headlights are equipped with a level which can be seen by looking through the clear "window" on the top of the headlight lens. Turn the height adjustment knob until the bubble in the level aligns with the "0" marks or within the dark marking lines."

I sure can't find any window, knob, or marks on the headlights with the hood up. Where exactly are these things on a '00 XC?

I think I have those adjustments backwards (???). Either way, you now know where the level is and the 2, right/left and up/down, adjustment knobs are located.

      Re: headlight adjustment V70-XC70 2000

I found a white knurled knob on top of a stalk sticking out the back of the headlight but it is very hard to turn by hand so I didn't want to force it. This might be the up/down adjustment. But I don't see anything that looks remotely like a level idicator.

On top of the headlight to the outside (closest to the fender) is a small screw underneath a cap. Nearby is a L<->R label so I'm guessing this is the left/right adjustment. I'm mostly concerned with the up/down.

        Re: headlight adjustment V70-XC70 2000

I looked last night and as I suspected, both adjustments have L/R by them, obviously for left/right and lower/raise-still not sure which is which. I'm 75% sure that the top one is the lower/raise. Both adjustments should have a phillips screwdriver slot in the center that you should use, instead of trying to force the knob. As far as the level indicator, I've got to assume at this point that your model year headlight housing has been changed. I would suggest posting the message again and even maybe directing it towards Yannis as he seems to be one of the more knowledgable here.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

          Re: headlight adjustment V70-XC70 2000

After cleaning the white knob (on the stalk in back) a phillips screwdriver worked on it although the plastic knob looks like it could be damaged easily. The knob is definitely the up/down control. I still can't find any level indicator described in the manual so the adjustment is trial and error--hard to do because the beam is dispersed. I'll just have to see how it looks under night driving conditions and if I get any flashes from oncoming cars.

            Re: headlight adjustment V70-XC70 2000

If you type in Headlight Adjustment into any search engine for the Internet, there are a half dozen articles out there on how exactly to do it. If you want to fudge it I would recommend finding a level area against a large wall (parking garage works well). Figure out on the wall with a mark (tape works great) your headlight height from the ground and center of each lens. Backup about 12 feet of so. Your low beams should be (if I remember right) below and inside your marks. Your high beams should have you marks in the center of your illumination.

Give it a try and adjust for your preference from there. Don't let those highbeams get to high as you'll end up losing your hotspot and they won't do any good.

If mine is like yours, which I would assume it is because the directions are the same, the level indicator is on top of the headlight housing in the center. It is about the size of a 50 cent coin and probably covered under some dirt. The up/down adjustment is on the back of the housing, center and towards the bottom. It sticks out like a thick pen with a turn knob on the end. The left/right adjustment is on the housing, outside edge top, next to the level. Make sure you are sitting level before ajusting up/down! Hope this helps.
