factory roof rack 850 1996

1975 164E 75 thru 89

1986 240 86 thru 98

Hi

I purchased a factory roof rack for my 1996 850. I got it initially to carry my kids ski's. It is the kind of rack that fits into the little holes in the doors and you can take it on and off. I purchased it with the ski holder which also comes on and off the bars. the plastic parts on the bars has Volvo molded into the plastic. I would rather not pay volvo prices for add-on's to this system. I am looking for a roof cargo carrier so I will be able to hall some of my kids stuff when she goes to college in the fall. Are there any aftermarket cargo carriers which should fit it.

TIA

JOHN STRUNK

Re: factory roof rack 850 1996

Any Thule products will fit your car. Thule makes the oe volvo racks, and anything that is Thule compatible will fit your car. There are other companies that make things that will fit Thule. Thule is usually the best quality. By the way, Thule is pronounced two-lee, I looked like a fool the first time saying thu lee. - Cory 94' 850 with roof rack

Re: factory roof rack 850 1996

You forgot to mention that Thule is very expensive.

Since I am cheap, I am using a Walmart box (purchased in Canada) and it works just fine for our camping trips. They are fairly waterproof and look very similar to the OEM Volvo box.

If you want to go high end there are only two choices:

1. Thule

2. Yakima
