Valve job or not!!! S70 2000

I am in the process of replacing the head gasket on a 2000 S70 Turbo with 130.000 miles on the clock. It has had a slow coolant leak for the past few months and eventually overheated and now I am getting coolant into cylinders 4 & 5. I have removed the head and purchased a full gasket kit which has new valve guide seals. I was planning to clean the head and do a (hand type) valve job before reassembling it. Compression was good, it did not burn any oil between (5K) changes, and the engine is quite clean (except for varnish) for its age. I do not have a tool to remove the valve keepers and it looks like I need to add an extension on an old "C" type compressor because of the recess and lack of clearance around the valve springs.
Am I overdoing it??? Do I really need to go to the trouble of removing all 20 valves just to do a hand lap and replace the seals??
I only use the car for winter, keeping my new S60-T5 off the road for a few years.
Thanks for any replies/opinions/suggestions.
Tom

Thanks Klaus, I found this too, and made one. It works quite well. I decided to do the valve job and replace the seals. Should have it done tomorrow. The head is within spec so I don't need to have it milled. Winter is coming!

130K is a bit early for valve seals. But, you do have the head off and on a work bench... How about renting a valve spring compressor? A good one will make the job much easier. For a 'winter beater' you don't need to repl the seals.

The head and block should still mate nicely, unlike the red blocks with 2 different metals and warping involved. My theory is that those that use 87 octane consistantly will have hot spots next to the cylinders that cause the gasket to burn off and leak.

I have used 87 octane on my 1998 S70 from 75,000 to 221,000 miles. Currently developing a head gasket problem.

125K miles on 87, sounds about right to me. So. if you get around 20mpg combined driving, that equates to 6250 gallons of gasoline. 10 cents more for a gallon of gasoline equals $626 and a new headgasket is a bit more than that.
