Turn Signal Erratic for 2006 S80 S80 2006

I have 2006 S80 that has erratic turn signal behavior- Blinks very fast to not at all, and seems to vary with car speed but not consistently. Does the S80 have a turn signal relay or controlled by something else. Have been searching old posts but not yet understanding what needs to be replaced.

    Turn Signal Erratic for 2006 S80 S80 2006

I'm not guaranteeing that this will fix your problem, but I ran into a similar issue where the right turn signal would malfunction periodically, but only during humid weather. Where I live, this only occurs during certain times of the year, and by "humid", I mean, "weather that the rest of the United States has for most of the year".

I removed and disassembled the turn signal switch (be careful not to lose anything), cleaned all the contacts, and have been functioning properly for about a year. It's worth a try.

Hey Chris, good to see you're still checking in here. From your signature line, I see you have also ventured over to the FWD side. We also have an 05 S80 2.5T that my wife drives - have had it for about 4-1/2 years now. It's actually served us quite well. I picked up a high mileage 2003 V70 2.4 NA "fixer-upper" about two years ago after totaling my 745. After some front end work, one rebuilt CV axle, replaced DIM cluster, and repairing a boatload of electrical gremlins caused by a tailgate hinge wire harness failure, the V70 has become a rather enjoyable ride also.

I'm gonna see if I can operate on the turn signal switch tomorrow. It couldn't be much worse than the one I repaired on my son's Saab. Now THAT was an adventure.

I did finally go over to FWD with my S80, about 4 years ago, and I've put on a whopping 7k a year since then. It was a CPO car and I never used the warranty one time. I've been very happy with it all around, especially happy that the engine compartment has a lot of room to work. Even though I haven't really done much to it (because of the low miles), I'll probably be doing a number of maintenance items early or mid 2013.

My 2003 V70 turn signal is starting to act up also. I'm pretty sure the problem is a bad contact in the switch. It only does it when turning left. Also, I can affect it by holding down a little harder on the stalk - or by applying a bit of up pressure when it's in the blinking position. :) I think I'm going to try operating on the switch next weekend.

The blinker relay for European cars is part of the emergency flasher in the dash. If the pushed triangle is eratic, then replace that part.

Thanks Klaus. I've been playing with it this evening and do not find the hazard lights to show the same result. Also, finding that the lane change position functions correctly - does not show the same result as full turn position. I'm suspecting the turn signal arm/switch itself.

Interesting. The lane change is just an indent away from normal turn position. Same wires.
