My wife had the engine steam cleaned on her 1996 850R. She advises that it is now running and idling rough.

Any thoughts on the problem?

Your spark plug holes (at least one) are filled with water. Remove the upper plastic cover, the spark plug wires from the holes and either use rags or compressed air to get the water out.

In the future, don't steam clean or wash that engine with water. You'll need to have the misfire codes cleared too (check engine light) by a scan tool.

We see this happen often when a new guy starts working for our used car clean-up crew.

It always run poor after you steam cleanned the motor...

Best way is right after you steam clean take it on the high way and run it for 30 minutes this will dry out all the water....

Thank you very much. Took your advice and rough running engine is resolved. Although the Check Engine light is now on, I am hopeful that it too will resolve in time. Thanks again.

Any check engine lights/codes stored?

Some water way have gotten its way under the spark plug cover and into the spark plugs. Some wiring or electrical components may have some arcing do to excess water.

Try runnning the engine in as dark an area as you can (i.e. drive way at night with all lights off), and look under the hood for any blue arcing.

Try these first, they are they two most common problems.
