Software Upgrades? Yes or No? V70-XC70 2001

My 2001 XC is almost ready for its 7500 service. I have only one problem and that has to do with the remotes acting strangely. There have been numerous posts regarding this and I plan on having it looked into at the service visit. I also have seen various posts here and at Swedespeed and Volvospy forums regarding various software upgrades for several items as well as for the remote problem. Some of these are for transmission shifting improvements and rough idle problems. I don't think I have any shifting problems and the rough idle is normal according to the service tech I spoke to. My question is, should I ask for ALL available software upgrades for my model, even if I don't "seem" to have a problem? With my computer I always get any upgrades for programs as it seems to avoid problems that may eventually pop up. Is it wise to approach Volvo Upgrades the same way? Thanks for any and all feedback. Tom.

Some of the remotes have problems, there are upgraded remotes...no software upgrade needed.

Re: Software Upgrades? Yes or No? V70-XC70 2001

It is not 'standard policy' to download all SW upgrades when the car is in for service. The upgrades are performed ONLY if there is a specific complaint that the upgrade may resolve. An example is the 'cold start at high altitude' SW that may create other problems if downloaded into a car that doesn't see high altitude OR cold temperatures. I've seen cars towed in from the ski areas that are basically flooded- plugs wet, oil diluted, battery discharged from extended cranking. This SW, after an oil change and fresh spark plugs, greatly reduces the chances of this problem occuring again. If it was downloaded into a car in, say, Florida, it may exhibit some other starting/drivability complaint after the download because it is tailored to a SPECIFIC situation.
