What comprises the heated seats?

I have a 94 850 turbo wagon with no heated seats. In the cold winters it would be nice to have. Is it just a pad that goes under the stock seat or an intregal unit that requires an entirely different seat? I would have to get the switches and wiring set up, but wondering what my options are. Thanks.

It could be added but I'd suggest buying the OEM Volvo wiring diagram for you car first from 1-800-25-volvo so you can wire it exactly as it would be if factory installed.

You'll need both seat heater elements (per seat, upper and lower), the wiring harneses for it, seat heater thermostat, switch.

Unless you like upholstery work (where you'll need a hog ring pliers and hog rings), installing the elements won't be fun for you but it's possible.

On the other hand, there's places where they install aftermarket seat heaters too but I have no idea how costly that might be.

Don't bother with hog gings, just cut them off and re-fix using cable ties-just as good and no chances of shorting out the heater element

Another idea is to get the wiring as John suggested, and get a pair of seats already setup from a salvage yard. You might even be able to trade seats to save $.
