radio and speakers 850 93

We have only had my wifes 850 for a little over a month. It has the original radio and CD player. The other night I was in the back seat and noticed the rear shelf speakers were not working, no matter wher the fader switch is. I went to Bay 13 and it seems that the wiring that runs the rear door speakers also runs the shelf speakers.( at least for a 95) The rear door spekers do work. I havent pulled out any of the trunk lining material yet. Any suggestions ? Also do the later models have a balance left to right. Ours does not ?

Re: radio and speakers 850 93

thaks for the help so far. My wifes radio is an SC 810 ? and the volume knob does not move in or out, and there is nothing in the book about left to right balance so maybe it does not. I used a tester and I am not getting power to the speakers on the shelf so somewher the connection is not connected.

On the sc-811 in my 95 you change the left/right balance by pulling the volume knob out, then turning. Push it back in to change volume.

Re: radio and speakers 850 93

It is likely the magnets fell off the tweeters and locked the woofer cones to the basket. This happened to mine and the woofer suspensions were shot because the cones were pushed in for so long.

Remedy: new speakers! Non Volvo speakers may require some retrofitting if you want to use them with the volvo housings/grilles.

Re: radio and speakers 850 95

Well, my wife's car has the exact problem. The radio is an SC-811, and it's the speakers. I have not yet checked to see if the speakers are at fault or the radio. But... I have complained quite loudly about this to my dealer (who could not find the problem), and it looks like they are going to replace deck and speakers to fix the problem. My understanding is this is a common problem on these... so you might want to talk to a reasonable dealer...
