Airbags going to 15 years ALL

I read in the paper this weekend that Volvo is going to change their airbag

replacment to 15 years and it may be extended beyound that. The reason they picked ten years initially is that felt they had to pick some time span. Now that ten years has passed and there is no data of any problems they are going to chyange the recomendation to 15 years on all air bags. Volvo will recommend having the airbags service at ten years which consists of making sure the air bag self test works and there isn't any fault codes.

Doesn't this happen each time you start the car?

Yes it does. It will be interesting to see how much Volvo will charge for this service, which really isn't a service. I wonder if they will send out notices to tell people that it is time for them to check the airbag system.

Nothing will happen ALL

Volvo won't do anything with it at all being that even at 10 years, it's WAY out of warranty and like any new car manufacturer, they don't care about your old car at all as they'd like you to just buy another new Volvo instead. Most 10+ yr old cars are second owner and Volvo has no obligations to them.

SRS has been used in Volvos since '87 and I've never once had a customer want there SRS system checked when no light was present, even then most won't fix it being that it'll get too costly to justify in an old car, hence electrical tape on the dash.
