Will front seats from a 2000 S70 GLT SE fit a 1996 850? 850 1996

Hello All,

My inquiry above pretty much sums up my question. Will the front seats from a 2000 S70 GLT SE fit into a 1996 850 GLT wagon?

Also, did this particular model come with heated seats as standard equipment? I'm about to look at a pair of used seats. The car which they came from is long gone (though I'm told it is was a turbo), so I can't confirm the interior color code (though they look like the right color) nor if the car was equipped with a switch to heat the seats.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Hugh

For what it's worth, I was able to have my drivers seat in my 940 redone in vinyl (surprisingly nice) for 300 bucks cash. You may look around for a small upholstery shop, though when I lived in S. CT years back, I never found a reasonable shop for this work. These cars are just getting too old for good seats from the pick and pull. You might also peruse CL, out here in SW Ohio, a guy has been trying to sell a set of black 7/940 seats that look quite nice. Good luck. Mike

      MIke,

I think you are right. Every time I pass an upholstery shop, I'll make it a point to stop by and get a price of what it would cost to "re-do" the seats. Probably in vinyl because leather would be out of the question due to cost. At this point I'm just concerned with ascetics. Fortunately, I can still drive the car "as is".

Most seats in northern cars have butt warmers. To check, there are 2 wires going into the bottom seat cushion at the rear.

Unfortunately, while the seats will bolt right on, the wiring is different on the 850s for power seats.

      Klaus,

Thank you for your response. I called Erie Vo-Vo, a salvage yard that specializes in Volvos. According to the person I spoke to, the seats out of 2000 S70 GLT SE will not fit in a 1996 850. The hole patten in the floor is different as is the track. For a 1996 850 wagon, the only suitable donor cars are 850s from 1993 to 1997.

Like yourself, I have a 850 in which the front seat are falling apart, not from abuse, but just ordinary use. I have priced new "OEM type" seat covers, but between the cost of the seat covers and the labor to install, it just doesn't make economic sense. I hope I still come across reasonably priced replacement seats, but with each passing year the population of available seats decreases and those that survive are not "getting any younger".

      Hugh

Now you know why I am combing pick&pull yards for new skins. Our local P&P sells the entire seat for $20, making it economical but labor intensive (and LOTS of zip ties). The skins from the C/V/S70s do fit the 850 seats, driver seat bottoms are interchangeable with passenger seat. Seat backs are not because of the lumbar adjustment.

There are a lot of P&P yards in CT/MA, check them out.

          Klaus,

I know what a P&P yard is, but I've never seen them advertised. I live in Fairfield, CT, can you recommend one nearby? Most of the salvage yards I've spoken to or have had direct contact, pull the parts off the cars and have them stored. I've never come across a "help yourself" yard.

          Hugh

I wasn't into fixing cars when I lived in 06001 and 06033, and now I live in the Twin Cities. Fairfield county is just too crowded for me.

There are a few Brickboard members in CT, make a new post and ask them for P&P locations that have Volvos.
