2000 v70 wiring different than other 70 series years? No REM in rear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! V70-XC70 2000

Brake lights on the back corners are out, but center upper brake light works.

Everything I've read suggests it's the brake light relay in the REM, but the REM isn't back there and I found info on a forum stating from a certified Volvo tech that the 2000 70 series doesn't have a REM.

If that's the case and I have the same issue, brake lights out on both sides with upper center brake light still working, as others have had then how in the world am I going to fix it without a REM to find the relay in??????????????

Very frustrated. Need to figure it out so I don't get a ticket.

Rear Electronic Modules were born in 2001. Did you check the fuses?

      Hi Klaus,

Thanks for your message. Yes, checked the fuse first, but if it were the fuse it would be all three brake lights out if I recall what I read correctly. So if no REM until 2001 it has to be the brake light switch above the brake pedal, correct?

If the center brake light comes on, then it is not the switch. You need to check the bulb holders in the rear for corrosion and good ground wires. Assuming the bulbs are good...

Brings to mind the bulb out light, is that turning on when you push the pedal? The bulb out module (I don't know where that is) can fail.

I will make sure the bulbs are connecting properly...have heard of people 'smacking' the light covers to get the connection back. Seems like a high level Volvo fix. haha.

Thanks, Klaus. I will check back in with you to let you know what happens.
