stuck key S70 1998

Replace the key cylinder twice.

Each time it seems the key gets stuck and won't remove. It is sporadic sometimes it does come out and sometimes it will not go to the first position to remove,

Read that the manual shift lock may be the issue and not realizing the car is in park

If this is the case is merely spraying the shift lock button to ensure release or is it something else?

madness

The cylinder lock for Park is both electrical and mechanical. In the rear of the lock cylinder, there is a cable which can get sticky over the years. Use some graphite or locksmith oil to make sure the cable can move freely. You will have to remove the plastic clamshell over the steering column.

Spraying oil/silicon on the shifter button can help. So can spraying the override button, but don't use much oil. Oil attends to attract dust/dirt and dries after a while making a big mess.

Also look at the release button for cracks. If it is cracked it doesn't return to the normal position and wont let the shiftlock cable return. You may need a small mirror and a flashlight to see it.
