98 V70 V70-XC70 1998

Gentlemen!!!

Greetings..

Need help with my 98 V70 ignition switch... I replaced the lock and
in the process of replacing the Ignition switch all the wires jumped
out of the holder and so I messed up there....

However I chedk the wires on a s70 also a 98 and copied that configeration.

My confusion is that it is so different from the diagram one I found on line,
for the same model and year...? I have the wireing image on line with me.
(Matthews has the same diagram.)

Nervous about connection the battery... The original switch was somtimes
just spinning round and so damaged the Ignition switch...

Will be most gratful for help & Advice...

GregP

    98 V70 ignition wires fixed V70-XC70 1998

The OP sent me pictures of his S70 wiring and the dead V70 wiring. Both cars are 1998s. I compared them to the 'official' wiring and found nothing amiss. But did notice one if the 15 amp wires was connected by a thread...
The following was sent to me via email:

Got my car running... I took out each wired sockets on the ignition switch
gave them a little squeeze and reinserted... nervously connected battery ..

Came on with all lights and started with all 88888888. After this self test, it
came back to a normal display.... Started fine. Thanks for your input.

The switch is not wired like the diagram we all have.

The S70 is the same as the V70. Not having easy access to your car, and not seeing the MVS photo, I cannot comment on the difference. Is it a color difference or wire thickness?

I do have the 1998 wiring diagram on my PC.

      Hi Klaus...

I took a photo of the S70 and used to wire the ignition switch on the V70.
All colour code and and wire gauge matched & looked the same. The wiring diagram
from the the 98 Volvo wiring section on "line" looked completely different.

All the lights are dim and flickereing when I connected the battery. This
was the other reason I had decided to bite the bullet and change the key
barrel and the Ignition switch assy. I had problem with the key barrel
      for a long time...

I do not know how to post pictures on this site.

      Thanks, for your reply,

      Greg

          Hi Claus...

That is exactly the one I found on the web and also the very same one
is in the Official Volvo Wiring Publication, but is different from both
of the 98 I have... also couple of the colors are different.

I did notice the my voltage was 11.6v dc. so am also going to
charge my battery and try again.....

Thanks Matey & Have a Great Evening,

          GregP
