Does the climate door motor adjust the amount of hot/cold air delivered to the cabin? Is it controlled by the temp adjust knob?

Yes, and yes. The cabin temp sensor also tends to get dirty and clogg up, messing up the reading, but that usually triggers the blinking yellow lights.

Is one side cold and the other hot?

Yes, driver side is hot while the passenger side is cool in a/c mode. I have determined that the climate control actuator motor is not working, going to install a new one this weekend. I've also noticed that the recurculation button illuminates red, not green. Is that a fault light due to the bad motor?

      thanks
      Mike

Recirc button is supposed to be red when engaged, you are probably correct regarding the malfunction.

As to replacing the vent motor, the older cars required programming to 'set' the motor so it knows the limits of operation. This probramming was quite involved, requiring a 15 minute drive and a 2 minute rest with the key in position one.

I would have stopped at a Volvo shop to get the codes from the ECC before buying parts.
