Chirping noise coming from rear of car 850 1994

Hi Brickboarders -

I recently had new rear pads and rotors done on my 1994 N/A 854. The brake noise is now gone, but I've noticed a new noise, almost like a bird chirping, coming from somewhere in the rear of the car. I don't notice it when first starting off, but after the car is warmed up some it will crop up. It doesn't happen only when I go over bumps or when turning; it will happen when I'm coming to a stop on a flat road.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks,
Steve - 1994 N/A 850, 220K

Replacing the rear rotor can be simple to someone who does a lot of 850s. To the uninitiated it can be a real challange because the drum brake needs to be loosened a lot before removing the rotor. If the mechanic 'forced' the rotor off, he could have broken a shoe hanger so that it now falls down on the drun.

Find a 'rough' road and when the chirping noise begins, pull up lightly on the brake handle and see if the noise goes away. If so, take it back to the shop and ask them to fix it.

As a rule of thumb, when the rear rotors need to be replaced, I always replace the brake shoes for an additional $20.

Does your emergency brake work OK?

Yes, it seems to be fine.
