Wife's car ran real low on oil. She had almost 5 quarts put in. Seems car is eating oil. No apparent oil leaks.

Anyway, After oil was put in car ran fine. Next day daughter takes car and calls me that its running rough. Told her not to take it out.

I check with scanner and got p0011 bank1 camshaft advanced.

Son's friend a mechanic not local said might be camshaft vvt or possibly the solenoid.

Had timing belt done 40k ago.

I assume the vvt requires a timing belt change. Does the solenoid?

Are there testing procedures for the solenoid. Could it be gummed up?

An ihelp with direction would be appreciated.

Madness

Most likely the VVT solenoid, not the timing belt. Yes, it can get clogged with dry oil but I am not versed on cleaning. It is on top of the cam housing and does not require belt removal.

Thank you Klaus, pickup the solenoid today at volvo. My car had the $129 version exhaust positioner. The intake version cars cost $216. Guess I'd did something right to catch a break.

Probably helping the old lady down the street whose car broke down last week lol
