Need Upholstery Shop in Fairfield, CT or nearby 850 1996

Hello All,

With over 325,000 miles the front seats of my '96 850 GLT (leather) are cracked and worn. Can anyone recommend a good upholstery shop in the Fairfield, CT area? Thanks to all who reply.

Hugh

Or you could do what I did. I pulled a seat from a V70 at the local pick&pull for $20 and swapped seat skins. The wiring is slightly different, otherwise I would have tried putting the V70 seat into my 850 because the seat heater is better.

I eventually got another seat from an 850 and the entire rear bench, for $40. I haven't cleaned them yet, but the stiching is good and no cracks.

I bought a packet of 100 8" zip ties to put the new skins on. Cutting the hog clips was the hard part.

      Klaus,

I've tried in my area to find decent donor seats out of other cars, but either they don't exist or they are as dried out and cracked as the ones I have. I tried to dodge the bullet of getting the seats re-upholstered because of the cost. I like your "math" much better than what I'll end of spending. I realize I'm paying for the labor in creating the seat covers and installing them.

I guess being philosophical about it, if the seats last another 15 or 17 years, I can't complain.

      Hugh

I've used Classic Upholstery in Bethel. I think the guy's name was Brian. They re-did the rear seat of my 145 about 12 years ago. I was very happy with the job and that he was able to save the original cloth part since it was no longer available. May not be the cheapest around, but I'd use them again without hesitation.
He also did a Chevy pick-up seat for the work truck.

Another place is Black Horse Garage in Bridgeport. My boss used them for the seats in his Alfa. They look great, but I think it cost him a pretty penny.

Thank you for both leads. I will follow up on them tomorrow. I appreciate it, because I really don't have much experience in finding a good shop to do seat re-upholstery work. If you are lucky, its something you don't have to address too often. I asked the guys at the private shop who service my Volvos and they really didn't have anyone to recommend. Your advice might provide a service to them too.

      Hugh

Well, it's not like I've had a ton of experience with them. Just haven't really had the need for an upholstery shop very often. But I suppose some experience is is better than none.
