Rear Shock Mounts 850 1997

Hey guys,

Getting ready to order struts/shocks for the 850 sedan, need a few more years out of it (well maybe 4 or 5) for my daughter. Do the shock mounts at the rear go out or are they a 200 kmile item. In other words, just order them now and be done or maybe I have 50k miles of life left in them? Thanks as always.

Mike

Thanks guys, I ordered the aftermarket ones (not my usual approach), but don't need this car for years. Hoping the front strut mounts are OK, we'll see once she's apart. Thanks again.

The rear mounts (come to think of it, the fronts as well) have been changed a few times on our 217,000 mile 854T too.

Don't know if it's poor quality mounts or Volvo just figured it to be a wear item.

In 200,000 miles, I have gone through three sets of rear shock mounts due to failure of the mounts.

So, I would say, replace them as they are, in my opinion, not a 200,000 mile item.

Something I remember from when I first replaced them . . . for probably an assembly reason, Volvo used extra long bolts to hold the mounts to the body, with all of the several inches of extra thread sitting out there, exposed to the elements for years. It took a lot of time and a lot of WD40 to remove those bolts and, when I did, I cut them short so the next time I had to do the job it was quite a bit easier.
