Tach died today.......where do I start looking 850 1994

I have a '94 850 NA with auto trans and noted that the tach suddenly dropped to zero while idling in the driveway a couple of days ago, then came back up. Today, it died all together.
Any suggestions where to start looking. Otherwise the car is great.

    If you have the diagnostic box up under the hood, you can use A7 to put the instrument cluster in diagnostic mode - the needles of the gauges should go to expected values. That could help determine if it is the cluster or something else. I found the procedure on matthewsvolvosite. I wish I still had my '95 with that OBDI led/switch setup...
