later rotors and wheels on 4 bolt stubs 850 93

just curious at this time. Have my wifes 93-850 has the nice alloy wheels, that according to our mechanic are nearly imposible to get because they are the 1 year usa 4 bolt pattern, luckily we do not need any . Anyway have noticed several 850s getting parted out in e-bay and here. If a person switches rotors can they then swithc to the 5 bolt wheels or is ther al olt more involved

    Josh-

I also have a '93 and have considered upgrading to the 5 lug setup for more wheel choices. It would take hubs, rotors, and wheels to make the swap. Since I prefer not to put used hubs on my car, I'll stick with the 4 lugs until I hit the big Lotto jackpot. The parts cost alone for new would probably be $1500 WITHOUT the wheels. The wheels are still available from Volvo, and the X40 uses a 4 lug wheel. Haven't had the chance to throw one on to see if they actually fit the '93

      Re: 302mm to replace 280mm rotors? 850 93

Dave, I drive a 95 855T5A. My stock rotors are 280mm. What do I need if I want to switch to the later 70series 302mm rotors?

Someone told me the 70s 302mm calipers and pads are the same as my 850, just that there is some kinda "bracket extension" for these later calipers, and Volvo doesnt sell them extensions separate, it comes in a set with the calips. Can you confirm?

      Thanks

      Jeff

        Re: 302mm to replace 280mm rotors? 850 93

        Jeff-

The parts listing is not very clear on the upgraded brakes. The mounting bracket for the caliper is also the part that the pads 'slide' on as they wear. The standard brakes list the bracket as a separate part, but apparently the 'big' brakes are only available as a mount/caliper assembly. The 280mm and 302mm rotors do use the same pads so I have to assume the caliper is the same, just the mounting bracket is different. However, if you can't get just the bracket, you are stuck buying the assembly. Volvo also lists a '17 inch' brake kit that has different part numbers for the rotors than the 302mm 'R' brake. The 302mm brakes won't clear a 15 inch wheel, so I would assume the 302mm rotor is a '16 inch' brake. I am still searching for additional info on the brake confusion, and will post it if and when I find something.

        Re: 302mm to replace 280mm rotors? 850 93

Well, I just swapped my 280mm rotors and calipers for the volvo performance line 320mms. Did it last weekend, took 1hour, everything fitted great. Mayby I can find you a complete new set for 1000$. Don't know how to send it though.

          Re: 302mm to replace 280mm rotors? 850 93

thanks for the reply, andreas. 320mm rotors? You must be using 17in wheels. I have stock 16in turbo wheels, biggest that’ll fit are the OEM 302mm rotors used by some of the 70series line. Reluctant to go to 17in cos of the expected harder ride.

I know some shops like SAM stock the whole replacement kit, rotors, pads, brackets, hoses and all, but I was thinking if all I needed was some extension brackets and 302mm rotors, then why not?

          Thanks anyway.

Yeah Jeff! I also want to upgarde my stock 280mm rotor 302mm because I need to fit back 16 inch rim for my snow tire every year. I also thinking about what parts I need to have for this projec.

Like the wheels, you're stuck with 4 hole rotors too.
