Alternator Removal Instructions 850 1996

New to Brickboard. Sorry if this is posted elsewhere. I'm not very good at navigating the forums yet. I need to replace my alternator and am unsure about what I need to remove and how - power steering pump, radiator hose, etc. Someone mentioned a Chilton shortcut. I only have a Haynes manual and it's not very good. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, my car is a 1996 850 non-turbo wagon.

ANSWER Alternator Removal Instructions 850 1996

Welcome!
Here is a Youtube for a 1995 850:

But, first! Is your alternator dead, ie. are the bearings making noise? If not, it could be just the breushes that are worn down too far.

The plastic cover on the rear of the alternator comes off. Inside the plastic is the brush holder and the voltage regulator. I could never find the correct brush replacement, but regulators can be bought. Much easier to replace, nothing else comes off.
