Climate Control S70

A few months ago I got the dreaded flashing lights on my electronic climate control unit of my 98 S70. After this started the fan would work intermittently. When the fan wouldn't come on, I would have to restart the car and hope the fan would start. The other day I noticed that when I start the car with the fan on as high as it goes the lights don't flash and the fan always stays on. Has anyone ever seen this before? Nonetheless I'm confident I still have issues I need to fix. Does anyone know how to get the codes without going to the dealer?

There is no good way to get the codes except a Volvo specific scan tool or a PC type scanner with software that looks at everything.

The first suggestion is that the cabin temp sensor is clogged with dust. Get a nozel on a vacuum cleaner and try to suck some of it out. It is the small grill just to the left of the radio/climate control.

Moving the blower speed to something other than auto will negate the automatic function of the ECC unit. You blower will work without the ECC being functional, you just have to make all of the settings manually.

Thanks Klaus. Any ideas what the dealer charges for a scan?

All dealers are different. I have a good relationship with mine and sometimes when they are not busy they will scan it for free. Just call them.

But first, try to suck some dust from the cabin temp sensor and see if that helps.
