Houston Area Shops, Good , bad and the Ugly Recommendations wanted 850 1997

I Just moved from Washington DC Metro Area (Maryland Side, Laurel Area) to Houston, and would be much obliged if anybody could tell about any of the local shop to avoid patronize. In DC area I was very happy with Herb Gordon and Dannemans. In Houston I am living down around NASA/Clear Lake area

Thanks

GP

Re: Houston Area Shops, Good , bad and the Ugly Recommendations wanted 850 1997

There are 4 Volvo dealers in Houston

- Nils Sefeldt is on the Katy freeway west and are pretty good, they have a long-standing solid reputation. They are the guys I use.

- Volvo of Clear Lake on the Gulf freeway is closest to you. Previously they were also owned by Nils Sefeldt and prior to that they were called Giles Volvo. There had been some pretty negative posts about them when they were owned by NS but my understanding is that the new management is pretty good. This is based mostly on hearsay.

- Momentum Volvo is on the Southwest freeway. IMHO I found their sales staff to be pretty snotty. I have no other experience with them.

- DeMontrond Volvo is the 4th - I have no knowledge of them and don't even know where they are.

There are several independant Volvo mechanics around town and I'm sure you'll be able to find one in Clear Lake. I use Texas Automotive Performance who despite the fact that they don't mention it in their name specialize pretty much exclusively in Volvos. They are also off the Katy freeway on the west side of town. That's probably a hike from where you are which is a pity since I recommend them very highly.

Finally, also located, you guessed it, off the Katy freeway is a tiny little outfit called Volvo Parts Independant which I use for all my parts like oil filters, brake pads, tune up parts, etc. etc. Their prices on genuine OEM stuff is excellant and often better than IPD, etc.

Standard disclaimers apply: IMHO, YMMV, yadda, yadda.
