Just got nice 98 S70 / 200K -- Best stuff to do right away to make it reliable? S70

Just acquired a 1998 S70 with around 200K. I'd like to do some work on it to make it 'reliable'. I have no past repair records and it seems to have been well neglected.
I'm not as familiar with the S70 as with the earlier 740/940 models. There's the obvious stuff, belts, hoses, brakes -- however --
Are there any items I should attend to on this S70 that might be "achille's heels" / prone to failure?

Thanks,

Rob

Check the tranny fluid for color, new is pink and brown is flush it down. The dipstick has a yellow handle and is under the air intake hose by the battery. Best time to check is with the engine off and with a cold tranny, that will show more on the dipstick.

If you wish to do the sump drain and fill, do it on a cold tranny so all of the 'sludge' is in the sump. Buy 4 quarts of DEXII or DEXIII and add as much as you drain, usually about 3.5 quarts.

Look for a timing belt sticker on the computer box, that shoud give you a date and miles of the last belt change. Change interval is 70K miles. At 200K it is time for a new (OEM) water pump as well if the previous owner didn't have it done at 150K.

Flush the brake fluid with DOT4+. Set a date to flush the antifreeze and use either OEM or G5.

If you want to do a 'tune up', get new plugs, wires, and rotor. The good plug wires will have a manufacture date on them and yours are probably dated 98.

Thanks, KlausC -- this is v helpful.
Are any electronics / relays worthy of attention? On the 740/940 the fuel pump relays are notorious -- is the same true with the S70?

Hopefully, you should be on your second relay. It is numbered 103 and is under the fuse tray in the engine compartment. I suggest getting a folding Torx tool to keep in the glove box or center console. Most everything is a T25. I carry a spare 103 that I found in the junk yard - who knows if it works. A paper clip jumped betweed 15 and 87 will get you home.

Access to the fuel pump and sender is in the trunk, just in front of the rear seat.

If you get a Pnnnn error for the EVAP system, it is probably a split hose near the fuel filter ( above the right rear wheel).

Other than normal maintenance, DRIVE it.
