Overfull Oil Emergency S70 98

OK, OK, I thought I had done a good job changing the oil in my t5a yesterday. Unfortunately some how I overfilled. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to drain about 1qt out? Also, how detrimental to the vehicle is it to drive with too much oil?

Thanks a million in advance!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Tim

Tim, in addition to the previous suggestions, you can get a clean receptacle that can hold about 2 gallons (8 quarts) and drain ALL oil out into that clean receptacle. Then fill again leaving out unwanted amount.

I have also done the open-drain-plug-let-some-oil-out-put-plug-back-in method and that works better if you don't quite remove the drain plug but rather hold it very close to the threads and let the oil slowly escape (runs over your hands), then it is easier to screw the plug back in then if you completely removed it and then fumbled for the threads.

    Good luck

Best way to drain out one quart....loosen oil drain plug, put back in after approx one quart has been drained. Clean up messy hands.

The funniest thing I have ever seen in my life was when a young man tried to take out one quart from my old 740 when he overfilled it. The car was on the lift and when he thought 1 quart had drained out, he tried to put the plug back in while the oil was trying to flow out and it splattered all over his arm and shoulder, covered his cap and shirt and face and he finally gave up and let it all drain out and refilled more carefully the second time! I did that once. I backed the drain plug out until the oil trickled past it. It runs slow enough that you can check it with the dipstick repeatedly. Maybe back it out farther initially so you get done faster.

I have read that too much oil can be "whipped" by the crank, and the bubbles reduce lubricating and pumping efficiency.
