Battery symbol ON! 850

I post here because the S40 forum gets limited viewing...AND...I also have an 850. Anyway. 2001 S40, new battery two weeks ago. The 'battery symbol' on the dash is on. My manual says NOTHING about this symbol. Any ideas? If you have an idea, what do I do to resolve the problem? Thanks.

Typically the battery symbol means your alternator isn't charging. Make sure the battery cables are tight and check the battery voltage before you start the car. Check it again when it is idling and at about 3000 rpm. You should have 12.5 volts before and 14 volts when it is running.
