Timing belt and heater hose replacement 850

Looking on-line and in the Haynes the timing belt replacement looks straight forward. Hard parts seem like finding the timing marks, and working in cramped area. Do you need a crank pulley locking tool, or can you use something like ty-wraps to hold the pulleys together? My local Volvo mechanic quoted 3 to 400 for the timing belt replacement. But if I can I would rather save and do it myself.

For the heater hoses, how do you remove the plastic/O-ring clips? Any special tools required?

I have a good set of tools in my garage, have done the t belt on 240s and Subaru's.

T-belt is straightforward, but finding crank mark is hard, it's a teeny weeny little notch out on the crack gear at the block, it is not on the pulley. Line everything up and cut belt rather than try to squeeze it past the pulley, alternatively, use impact gun to remove 4 bolts and bit nut on crank pulley (but I cut belt). Mark old belt with white out at the 2 cam pulleys and transfer marks to new belt before you remove the belt. You will find the crank won't move, but the exhaust cam wants to rotate a tick clockwise. The marks will help you realize this and keep the engine in time easier. A 3rd hand helps, but it is doable, way easier than my VW.

    No experience with heater hoses...yet.

You will find that you don't need a cam locking tool (not crank) to replace the Tbelt and tensioner pulley. $400 is a relatively cheap price to replace the Tbelt. A ziptie will not work as it stretches too much and will slip in the sprocket holes.
