Front rotor size for 1998 C70 C70 1998

Hi folks,

Does anyone know what the rotor size is for a 1998 C70? I'm too lazy to take the wheel off and measure it myself. Thanks.

Mike

John,

Why would the rotors in the back be bigger than the front if it is a FWD car. Doesn't make sense. Also, on a side note, are you sure you have 16" ROTORS on your car or 16" wheels? The biggest rotors I've seen are 14".

The reason the rear rotors are larger are because they aren't vented, where as the front ones are.

He may mean that he has the upgrade that only allows a minimum size rim of 16". There are upgrade kits that require a minimum size rim of 16" to be used primarily with a 17" rim and 16" snows.

Man! For a C70, I was expecting something like around 11-12" range. It's amazing that the stopping power on this car is this good with those small rotors.

Re: Front rotor size for 1998 C70 C70 1998

In all actually the rotor are undersized for the weight, FWD, and for being just about a 60/40 weight distribution. The rotors on this cars should be about 12.5 inches on the front and 12in. on the rear. Unfortunately the swede's didnt intend on this car being raced, because if they would have they would have made the rotors larger, decreases the turbo lag, and made it a rear wheel drive.

If you really think that the factory brakes are good, try going to from the beach and 80 degree weather to the mountains at 10-15 degrees and then back to the beach. Watch as the rotors warp out as you go down the mountain back to the beach. Guaranteed that you will need to replace them.

I've actually done that... From the beaches of Los Angeles to Big Bear Lake. It's not exactly 10-15 degrees but was cold enough during the winter. I've done that trip around 6 times this year and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with the braking. In fact, I love the braking of this car, stops on a dime! After 50K miles, I think the rotors would be a little worn out. That's what the dealer recommended.

It also has to do with weight, pad material and rotor material.

The C70 is remarkably light for its size. If my memory serves me correctly, it's a couple undred pounds lighter then the S70.

And the OE pads used by Volvo have remarkable performance at the cost of wearing out quickly and producing TONNES of break dust.

Similar to the OE rotors, they are great for stopping but have a tendency to need replacing rather quickly, whether due to warping or wear.
