S70 Clutch life S70 1999

I have a line on a 1999 S70 with a 5 spd manual transmission here in SoCal. It's got about 95,000 miles on the clock and I want to know what the typical life of a clutch might be. No snow driving or big hills to negotiate or hauling things to affect the wear significantly.

I have a [one owner] 1998 V70 - original clutch lasted to 320k with 2 teenager learners and occasional trailer towing.

I have 2 manual transmission cars. My 1994 N/A 850 needed a new clutch at 145,000 miles. I live in Chicago and have a hellish commute to work. I drive 9 miles to work 1 way and it takes 45 minutes for me to get there. I bought the 94 when it had 65,000 miles on it. I also have a 98 S70 T5 5 speed with 136,000 miles and the clutch feels new. When I ran a carfax on it before I bought it I saw that it spent the first 10 years of its life in California and then Texas. Bottom line is that city driving kills your clutch. It's the only thing other than alignment I have a mechanic do. You need to pull the engine about 6 inches off the frame to separate it from the transmission. It's doable I just don't have an engine hoist. When you get it done make sure you replace the rear main seal while you are in there. My independent shop charged me 6 hours of labor to do it and I bought an O/E clutch kit.

Stop and go are the enemy of the clutch plate. One owner clutches usually last past 200K.

When the clutch disengagement is about 1/2 inch from the floor, it will be time to replace.
