2000 V70 SE 195K

Daughter's car. I discovered this by accident after I did some routine maintenance:

I locked all doors with the keyless remote and watched all locking knobs go down, walked away and then for some reason, went back and pulled on the front passenger door handle -- and it opened even though the door locking knob is in down position.

Recycled the keyless locking system and same result: front passenger door will open; all other doors including back hatch stay locked.

Any ideas where to start?

    There is a small red plastic piece inside the lock mechanism that breaks causing your problem. I've read where some have taken the lock apart and fabricated a replacement piece, but couldn't tel you where to find the info. I have replaced numerous door lock assemblies for this problem. It's not difficult. Part was around $160.00 last time I did one. (4 or 5 years ago)

      I just finished pass front door lock on my 99 XC this past week, after my wife noticed the same lack of locking. Bought used lock assy from Erie Vovo boneyard. great guys. I think I pd $60 delivered. At that price, not worth fixing the old one, IMHO. The job was a bit trickier than I expected because I found out that the single tiny Torx screw that holds the window mechanism that you have to remove [it's on the outer door frame down below the lock] had totally rotted and gone away. I ended up drilling it out, removed the alum 'rivet' and replaced with a SS screw and lock nut. There are good R&R instructions in the Haynes manual. If you don't own one, I can send you offprint, but you ought to own the manual.

    Does the door rattle when you close it? Sounds like one of the rods came loose or a plastic connector broke (stupid plastic).

    When you open the 'locked' door, does the lock button pop up? How about the alarm system? check the top of the dash LED.

    Roll the driver's window down with the car unlocked. Reach in and push the door lock button and see if it has the same effect as the remote.

    Pulling off the door panel will probably result in a broken mount tab, so be careful.
