Engine blowing oil 850 1994

For the last 2-3 weeks i noticed my 855 leaving a few drops of oil on the ground, on the passenger side. Got under it after a run of 40 miles on the freeway and find the passenger side engine and transmission covered with oil. remove the spark plug cover and the whole top of the head is covered with oil. Disassembled and cleaned the flame trap today, a little gunky but still flowing. checked all the vacuum connectors, put it back and started it. runs good but when i removed the oil dipstick could see very clearly air and oil vapor blowing out.
Question; is there any other trick to try before embarking on removing the intake to clean the whole system? if i need to clean up the hosess and oil separator, are there any tricks / modifications to do to make it work better?

One last question, when the PCV system gets gunked up like that, is there not some error code or check engine light? it seems like it lights up for things that are not as important as this!

Thank you for your advice

Carlos

Replacing oil separator / Half-way through the repair 850 1994

Thanks so much Klaus for your input. I have the new oil separator in place, but I cannot remember whether the hard hose that goes from the oil separator to the flame trap elbow goes above the intake runners or under the manifold. All the pictures i can find on the web are for Turbo cars, mine is not. I can almost swear that it went up between two of the runners but it appears not to fit anywhere there. anyone has a picture or a link i can use? you have all my gratitude!
The FCP Euro box contained a few feet of flexible small diameter vacuum line and one black hard line,

Without going into the garage to take a look, I think the large line goes behind the intake. At least the flame trap is back there anyway. The small line from the flame trap goes around the runners.

When putting the manifold back on, lightly bolt the bottom bolt for the support bracket. It is OK if it falls toward the starter. Once the manifold is back on, put the top bolt in for the support bracket and then reach down and tighten the lower bolt.

    Engine blowing oil 850 1994

Thank you Klaus, hopefully i caught this before blowing seals. there seems to be a tiny drain hole on the top of the engine which allows the oil in there to drip down, i hope this is where i got the oil on the passenger side

So i need to get replacement for the hoses in and out of the oil separator, do i need to change the intake manifold gasket? any other maintenance to do while i am there?

you mentioned the lower bolts of the intake only need to be loosened? is there a link to a clear procedure on this project>?

Thank you again for your wisdom

    Carlos

There are a couple of very slow and sometimes confusing videos:

I like still pictures better, this is just to show what the manifold removal process is like:

You have a 1994, so there is an EGR that also should be cleaned out. Don't get confused with the 'turbo' systems and the PTC valve which you don't have.

No error codes for the PCV system. It is past time to replace the oil separator system. Quite possibly, the hole in the bottom of the crankcase to the oil separator box is clogged. If so, reaming it out with a screwdriver will be required. The breather hoses are old and tend to crack when moved, so they need to be replaced as well.

The high crankcase pressure will blow out the cam seals if you are lucky. It can also blow out the RMS which is a ton of work.

There are several procedures online that explain how to replace the PCV hardware. Your non-turbo engine is not that difficult if you remove the engine fan first to get more knuckle room. Remember, the bottom bolts for the manifold only get loosened, not removed. And, there is a support bracket under the manifold that is invisible, the top bolt must be removed before lifting.

There is also a method to just lift the manifold and pivot it up and rest it on the top of the engine so the fuel lines do not have to be disconnected.
