I just got the 6-disc CD Changer ... S70 1998

Thanks to Abe's post I just got the CD changer with bracket for much, much less. Has anyone installed this? And if so:

1. How long did the installation take? Since it is OEM It seems it could be done in 30 minutes or less but according to others the estimated time is 1.5 hours.

2. Any issues to consider during the installation?

3. Is this a permanent install or can I take it out in the future keeping the inside of the glove box intact?

4. For those who had it for a while any problems with the unit so far?

I am deciding whether to get another unit for our other car. I know that there will roughly be an inch on top of the changer and 3 inches on the side of free space left in the glove box.

Thanks in advance.

Re: I just got the 6-disc CD Changer ... S70 2000GLT SE

I have the alpine CD changer and installed it myself in the glove box.

1 I removed the torx screws all around the Glove Box, took glove box inside house, mounted changer in glove box with brackets and drilled small holes in the plastic glovebox to use the mounting screws.

2. I drilled another small hole out the back of glove box to run the cable to the back of head unit and plugged it in. (Alpine Changers require adapter but I assume OEM does not.)

3. I spliced into the glove box light as the source of power for the cd changer. Removed glove box light bulb too.

I've been listening happily ever after. I'm not real handy but this was an easy task. Good luck.

Jeff

Re: I just got the 6-disc CD Changer ... S70 1998

I have had a 6 disc changer in my trunk since car was new. I'm sorry i cant help you with installation but i can tell you that my unit has worked beautifully. it will even play the cds i made without a fuss, unlike the player in the dash. I sorta wish my changer was in the glove box to make changing cds (especially while on a trip) a little bit easier. but, on the other hand, it is nice to have some space in the glove box. so i wish you luck with your installation.
